A Culture of Gospel-Centered Friendships

Text version

Brothers,

I would like to thank those of you who attended the Men’s Sunday School class last Sunday. We began a discussion of the ideas in the book, Got Your Back, by PCA pastor, Gary Yagel. The basic idea of the book is that men need men who are intimately involved in our lives for us to grow as Kingdom Men to maturity -- that is to seek Christ and His Kingdom in our homes, work, church, communities and recreations in an ever-increasing manner.

We are attempting by God’s grace to create a culture in New City of men encouraging men intentionally through Gospel-centered friendships. We seek a culture not a program. By culture we mean something that is more organic and spontaneous most of the time. This still leaves room for programmed interactions (Men’s Breakfasts; Retreats; Bible Studies) but such are not the driving force. We look for men in the day to day course of life (lunch, a Home Depot trip, Disc Golf, etc.) to make time to engage each other for mutual edification in Christ. This can be in groups or one to one.

The question we all must answer is do we see the need of men in our lives who according to Hebrews 10 encourage us to hold fast our confession of Christ in deeds of love and good works? We will continue to encourage this culture. I only ask you to be open if a brother or two asks you to get together.

May King Jesus grow us to maturity in living out the reality of His holy Kingdom of love.

Pastor Kevin for the Men’s Leadership Team

P.S. And if you haven’t read Got Your Back yet, by all means do so. It beautifully covers the groundwork for the culture of relationships we hope to build.
