Urgent Notice
Sanctuary Repairs: Urgent Seating & Entrance Changes for Sunday
Dear New City Family,
We ask for your flexibility and patience and prayers as we deal with some necessary and immediate repairs to our sanctuary. There are some changes in how we will use the sanctuary over the next few Sundays. We will have the balcony and the foyer closed off and will need to enter and exit from the two doors on either side of the platform / stage. We will not use the doors leading into the sanctuary from 3rd Street.
Over the summer months there has been considerable settling of the sanctuary building, and some old cracks that we have been monitoring have opened up. A structural engineer met with us on Thursday of this week to examine the sanctuary walls and the inside of those walls that can be accessed through the attic. We are waiting on a formal letter from the engineer, but his initial recommendation is that a qualified contractor should install support to the beam located between the sanctuary and balcony as soon as possible. We have a meeting scheduled with Modus Build on Monday morning, the same contractor who oversaw our recent renovations to our student wing. So, we are trying to move quickly to address this problem.
Until the area has been stabilized, the structural engineer's recommendations are that we not use the 3rd Street entrance and foyer, we close the balcony, and close the last 2 rows of pews in the back near to the distressed area.
Without the use of the balcony and the last two rows, we will need your help to conscientiously fit into the remaining rows. This can be an opportunity to enjoy some closer fellowship and a more social, coming-together moment for our church family! It will also help if we try to arrive a few minutes earlier than we normally would.
We apologize for this inconvenience, and we will keep you informed of the progress of repairs or of any further changes. Thank you for your understanding.
In His care,
Billy McKillop
Executive Pastor
